Villa Park Wins Title--Senior Robert Fisher’s seventh-place finish paced Villa Park to the boys’ high school Division II title in the Cal Poly Pomona Invitational. Fisher completed the three-mile course in 16 minutes 20 seconds. Orange finished fifth. Orange Lutheran took the girls’ Division IV championship as Amber Parkinson finished sixth in 20:08.
In the Valencia girls’ volleyball tournament:
Valencia 2, El Dorado 0--Middle blocker Amy Tamblyn was named to the all-tournament team as she led Valencia to the title with a 15-6, 15-11 victory in the championship match. El Dorado outside hitter LaNea Jones also earned all-tournament honors.
In the Calvary Chapel Invitational girls’ volleyball tournament:
Calvary Chapel 2, Village Christian 0--Freshman outside hitter Courtney Owens was named the most valuable player after her 20 kills led the Eagles to a 15-5, 15-8 victory in the championship match. Owens also had 15 kills in a 15-4, 15-11 semifinal victory over Calvin Christian.
At the Desert Classic girls’ volleyball tournament:
Whittier Christian Finishes 10th--In the 64-team tournament at San Bernardino Valley College, Whittier Christian defeated Wasco, 11-0, 11-1, and defeated Pacific, 11-5, 11-6, in the quarterfinal round before being eliminated by West Bakersfield, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7.
At the Heritage Varsity water polo tournament:
Irvine 6, Royal 5--Ryan Mulholland’s fourth goal, with 1:53 left in overtime, gave the Vaqueros (3-0) the victory in the tournament championship game at Heritage Park. Irvine trailed, 4-0, before tying the score with four third-quarter goals. Each team scored once in the fourth quarter.
