School: Valencia High

Sport: Volleyball

Position: Middle blocker

Class: Senior

For the third consecutive year, Tamblyn was named to the all-tournament team at the Valencia volleyball tournament and this time she and the Tigers dominated play to win their second tournament title in three years. Tamblyn had 57 kills, 10 blocks and eight aces as Valencia won six tournament matches without losing a game. Tamblyn, at 6 feet 1, led the Tigers to a 17-2 record and the Orange League title last season, and was selected to the All-Southern Section Division 2-A second team. She was diagnosed as being anemic during the summer and the combination of an improved diet and vitamin supplements has given her more energy. “Right now her strength is coming back, but we expect Amy to get even better this year,” Valencia Coach Dean Yoshimura said.

Other top performers:

Carrie Garritson, a Sunny Hills runner who won the Division II sophomore race at the Laguna Hills Invitational with a record sophomore meet time of 16 minutes 53 seconds for three miles.

Courtney Owens, who had 20 kills for Calvary Chapel in a two-game sweep over Village Christian in the championship game of the Calvary Chapel volleyball tournament. Owens was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
