Channel Islands 35, Hueneme 27--Senior running back Tony Velasquez scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:49 left in the third quarter to lead Channel Islands back from a 20-point first half deficit at Hueneme.
Velasquez’s run gave Channel Islands (1-1) a 28-27 lead, and junior quarterback Cesar Puga tossed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Chris Weist with 7:36 to play to complete the scoring.
Senior wide receiver Chris Zapata caught touchdown passes of 36 and 20 yards from quarterback David Andrade to give the Vikings a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Andrade tossed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Sharif Waldrum to give Hueneme (0-2) a 21-0 lead in the second quarter.
Andrade completed 19 of 37 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns.
Senior running back David Cox paced the Channel Islands ground game, gaining 131 yards in 22 carries.
