A 75-year-old San Fernando woman died when her mobile home was gutted by fire, authorities said Tuesday.

Charlotte Salerno was found dead Monday night after firefighters doused the flames at her 18-foot unit in a trailer park in the 1600 block of Celis Street near Lazard Street, the Los Angeles City Fire Department said.

The fire broke out about 11:10 p.m. and was extinguished 15 minutes later, department spokesman Pat Marek said. The fire apparently started in numerous boxes of clothing piled up in her residence, but it was unclear what sparked the blaze, said San Fernando Police Detective Bob Ordelheide.

Salerno, the sole occupant of the trailer, died of smoke inhalation and burns, Ordelheide said. The trailer was destroyed, with damage estimated at $20,000 to the structure and $10,000 to the contents.
