Cory Bowen, in his first game after missing nearly two games with a hamstring injury, ran for 171 yards and three touchdowns in only 18 carries to lead host Thousand Oaks High to a wild 39-37 Marmonte League victory over Newbury Park on Friday.

Bowen, a senior tailback, scored on runs of nine, 12 and four yards. His last touchdown put the Lancers ahead, 33-30, midway through the final quarter.

Fullback Quincy Jacobs scored on a 21-yard run moments later to give the Lancers a 39-30 lead. Jacobs rushed for 130 yards rushing in 16 carries and also returned a kickoff 87 yards for a score.

Keith Smith, Newbury Park’s sophomore quarterback, had a brilliant game, completing 25 of 38 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns, both to Leodes Van Buren. Smith also rushed for 99 yards and two more touchdowns in 14 carries, including a 60-yard scoring romp in the third quarter. Van Buren caught 14 passes for 179 yards, including scores of four and 28 yards.
