Exceeding Their Rights

Share

On the night of Oct. 8, my daughter was in the area of Van Nuys Boulevard and Ventura Boulevard, returning home from night classes at Valley College when unfortunately for her she drove into the middle of a protest by Queer Nation.

These poor downtrodden souls deemed it necessary to block access to the Ventura Freeway and stopped traffic on the surface streets. Some were not satisfied with merely obstructing traffic but decided to attack my daughter’s vehicle, kicking at it, spitting on it, and verbally abusing her.

Scared to death, my daughter had to seek refuge nearby at her place of employment. She called home crying and feared she would have to stay the night in her office. My first reaction was to immediately respond to my daughter’s distress but common sense prevailed. I instructed my daughter to use a different route home, circumventing the demonstrators.

I know everyone has the right to peacefully demonstrate. No one has the constitutional right to break the law and that is what the Queer Nation is obviously doing.

The Police Department, for reasons known only to the illustrious police commission, are unable or not allowed to police this group of misfits.
