Tuna Run Could Boost Sportfishing Season

Share

A slow season for the San Diego sportfishing fleet got a boost Tuesday when the Mascot VI reported it would return from a 1 1/2-day trip this morning with five-fish limits of yellowfin tuna for all 23 passengers.

It was the best of reports that have been consistent over the past two weeks, indicating that the run of tuna will continue into November. Mascot VI Captain Shawn Trowbridge said by radio that, besides the 115 yellowfin, his passengers also caught 50 skipjack tuna and one dorado.

The recent catches have been from 130 to 145 miles southwest of San Diego, where the water temperature has been unusually warm at 70 degrees.
