PREP NOTES

Brandon Jessie, Edison’s multi-talented football, basketball and track standout, had second thoughts three weeks ago about his decision not to play football during his senior season to concentrate on basketball.

Jessie met with Edison football Coach Dave White and told he wanted to play following Edison’s loss to Capistrano Valley in the second week of the season. White had given Jessie a deadline of the opening day of two-a-day drills in August to make a commitment to play.

“I kind of expected it,” White said. “We had a great talk. I told him I was a firm believer in the seniors and that they would have to vote on whether to allow him to play. They voted nay.

“I told him, ‘We needed you.’ We’d be 6-0 right now if he had been playing all season. He’s a two-touchdown-a-game player.”
