Dodger shortstop Alfredo Griffin, second baseman Willie Randolph of the Milwaukee Brewers and pitchers Ron Darling of the Oakland Athletics and Mitch Williams of the Philadelphia Phillies head a list of 17 players filing for free agency, raising the total to 57.

Clubs must decide today whether to offer salary arbitration to six players or possibly lose them to free agency. Included are pitcher Charlie Hough of the Chicago White Sox, second baseman Jim Gantner of the Brewers, outfielder Ken Griffey Sr. of the Seattle Mariners, outfielder Candy Maldonado of the Toronto Blue Jays, shortstop Dickie Thon of the Philadelphia Phillies and pitcher Bob Walk of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
