PREP ROUNDUP : Lynch Wins to Lead Laguna Hills to Cross-Country Title

Chris Lynch of Laguna Hills won the Pacific Coast League boys’ cross-country title and the Hawks took the team title Friday at Irvine Park in Orange.

Lynch finished the three-mile course in 15 minutes 12 seconds as Laguna Hills placed five runners in the top 10, finishing with 27 points. Estancia had 67 and Century had 77.

Adam Ripley of Laguna Beach finished second in 15:27, and Dave Burnette of Laguna Hills finished third in 15:36. Estancia’s brother combination of Robert and Peter Ho finished fourth and ninth respectively.

In the Pacific Coast League girls’ cross-country finals:

Laguna Hills Sweeps--Although the Hawks tied Costa Mesa, 42-42, in the girls’ meet, Laguna Hills won the tie-breaker because its No. 6 runner, Tiffany Boykin, finished ahead of Costa Mesa’s No. 6 runner, Mina Tsukada, on the three-mile course at Irvine Park.

Costa Mesa’s Katy Eklof won her second consecutive individual league title, finishing in 17:56. Costa Mesa lost the team title despite taking three of the top four places, as Denisha Bendz finished second in 18:26, and Julie Maher finished fourth in 18:52.

In the South Coast League girls’ tennis individual tournament:

Capistrano Valley wins twice--Page Bartelt defeated Nichole Elliott of Dana Hills, 6-1, 6-0, to take the singles title at Irvine High School.

Farrah Tierney and Lisa Shulga of Capistrano Valley beat Katarnia Triska and Brandi Beougher of Mission Viejo, 6-3, 6-1, for the doubles title.

At the Sea View League girls’ tennis individual tournament:

Colaizzi Wins Singles Title--Mara Colaizzi of Newport Harbor defeated Jeannette Fylpaa of University, 6-2, 6-2, to win the individual league title at Los Caballeros. Erika Anhood and Sara Cicerone of Corona del Mar won the doubles title.

In Pacific Coast League girls’ volleyball:

Costa Mesa 3, Laguna Hills 1--The Mustangs overcame deficits of 7-0 in the second game and 11-3 in the third to win a playoff game at Estancia High for third place. Olivia DiCamilli had 17 kills for Costa Mesa (10-6, 5-5) and Angela Tonavanik added 13.

In Angelus League water polo:

Loyola 12, Servite 6--Aaron Wooler scored three of his eight goals in the fourth quarter as the league champion Cubs won at home. Jon Verhalen had two goals for Servite (5-12, 4-4), which finished third.

In nonleague water polo:

Edison 9, Costa Mesa 5--Chris Egan scored five goals to lead Edison (15-10) at home.
