COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOOTBALL : El Camino Nudges Mt. SAC, 32-27

The El Camino College football team looked intense throughout its last home game of the season Saturday night and the result was a 32-27 Mission Conference victory over Mt. San Antonio College.

The Warriors (5-4 overall, 4-3 in league play) nearly lost the game when the Mounties (5-4, 3-4) drove to the El Camino four-yard line in the closing seconds but failed to score.

The Warriors’ running game was in full force as Eric Gamble ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns in 13 carries and Mark Harper gained 137 yards in 27 carries.

Warrior quarterback Jerry Singleton also had a good night. The freshman completed 11 of 18 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.

El Camino scored three touchdowns in the first half. Gamble ran eight yards for a score to complete a 10-play, 53-yard drive on the Warriors’ first possession.

Mt. SAC’s Jesse Davis’ returned the kickoff 95 yards to tie the score, but El Camino answered with an 86-yard drive that ended with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Singleton to Fred Safford with 13:40 left before halftime.

Freshman Michael Phillips’ two-yard touchdown run gave the Warriors a 20-7 lead with 3:10 left before half.

Mt. SAC scored in the final seconds before halftime when quarterback Anthony Calvillo passed 28 yards to Jalonn Harrison for a touchdown.

Glendale 14, Harbor 7--Glendale opened the second half by driving 72 yards for the deciding touchdown in a Western State Conference game at Glendale.

Harbor dropped to 1-7 and 1-6.
