Hart High quarterback Ryan Connors needs only 136 yards to surpass Jim Bonds as the school’s career passing leader.

Connors, a senior who will lead first-place Hart (6-3, 4-0 in Foothill League play) into the final game of the regular season Friday at Burroughs, has passed for 5,535 yards over the past two years. Bonds, now a backup quarterback at UCLA, passed for 5,670 yards from 1985 to ’86.

With at least two more games to play, Connors also is within reach of four other significant school passing records.

He has passed for 2,720 yards this season and needs 506 more to break Bonds’ season mark set in 1986. Connors, who has thrown 29 touchdown passes this season, needs 11 to break Bonds’ school record, also set in 1986.

Connors and Bonds share the school record for career touchdown passes with 55.

With 191 completions, Connors needs 32 to break Darren Renfro’s season mark set in 1987.

In Friday’s 48-0 rout of San Gabriel, Connors tied Bonds’ school record of six touchdown passes in a game.

Passing: Royal senior quarterback Ryan Fien has thrown 50 touchdown passes, two shy of the Ventura County record set by Santa Clara’s Tim Gutierrez. Fien has thrown 174 passes this season with only one interception, by Saugus senior Miguel Soler. Fien has thrown a school-record 21 touchdowns this season. . . .

Newbury Park sophomore quarterback Keith Smith has passed for 2,143 yards, a school single-season record. Smith did not take over as the Panther starting quarterback until the third game.

Records: Westlake senior wide receiver Erik Holcomb is Ventura County’s all-time leading receiver with 2,122 yards, eclipsing the standard of 2,009 set by Santa Clara’s Matt Young. After a three-game stretch in which he caught just four passes for 64 yards, Holcomb has caught 36 for 587 yards in his past three games.

Holcomb needs 87 receiving yards to tie Seamus Gibbons’ single-season school record of 1,053 (1990), and he is 13 receptions shy of Gibbons’ single-season record of 67 (1990). . . .

Buena sophomore running back George Keiaho has scored 108 points this season, eclipsing Richard Woods’ 1973 school record of 99. Keiaho needs 12 yards to tie Paul Samples’ 1970 school single-season record. Keiaho also holds school records for career rushing yards (2,398) and single-game rushing yards (234); points scored in a career (156); and touchdowns in a game (four), season (18) and career (26). . . .

Simi Valley senior wide receiver Dave Romines needs three receptions to tie Brian Balleweg’s school single-season record of 41. . . .

Thousand Oaks senior running back Cory Bowen has scored 31 career touchdowns, tying Mark Monestime’s school record (1985-87). . . .

Rio Mesa senior running back Gordy Abellera has rushed for 2,339 yards, second in school history to Mike Urratio’s 2,872. . . . With 2,099 rushing yards and at least two games remaining, Buena is on track to eclipse the school season record of 2,553 set in 1970.

Rushing: What kind of a workhorse has Kennedy tailback Elijah Raphael been this season? Raphael has carried the ball 217 times to lead all area ballcarriers. For purposes of comparison, former Crespi standout Russell White did not carry the ball more than 223 times in a season. Additionally, former San Fernando wishbone star Anthony Davis carried the ball 176 times in 1970, a school record that still stands. . . .

Thousand Oaks is averaging 291.6 rushing yards a game. The school record, set in 1964, is 282 yards.

Streaks: Poly wide receiver Michael Vreeland (32 catches, 617 yards, 19.3 average, six touchdowns) has caught a pass in 19 of 22 games the past two seasons. He has caught a pass in each of the Parrots’ nine games this season. . . .

If Kennedy defeats Cleveland on Friday, it will mark the Golden Cougars’ first league championship since Kennedy shared a title with Granada Hills in 1986. Kennedy leads the West Valley League with a record of 6-0. . . . Royal set a school single-season record with its ninth win Friday. The old record of eight was set in 1983 and matched last season. . . .

Agoura, a dominant team in the Frontier League, is 2-11 since rejoining the Marmonte League in 1990 and has a 5-20 overall Marmonte record.

Playoff notes: Simi Valley has earned its first playoff berth since 1985. Oxnard could earn its first playoff berth since 1986. . . . Ventura has clinched at least a share of its second consecutive league title and sixth since 1983. . . . Buena is the only Channel League team to qualify for the playoffs in each of the past four seasons.
