Mills did it all for Ventura in the Pirates’ 55-26 victory over Compton that snapped a five-game losing streak. The sophomore from Cleveland gained 123 yards in 12 carries, scored on a 59-yard run and caught nine passes for 71 yards.

Avetisyan, a sophomore from Hollywood High, had eight tackles--including two sacks--and a fumble recovery for Valley.

Spencer Wray of L. A. Southwest also was honored as co-defensive player of the week.

Heather Scobie, the former Saugus High standout who had her promising career as a distance runner slowed by injuries sustained in a car crash in October of 1987, placed 18th Saturday at the NCAA Division II cross-country West regional at Sonoma State in Rohnert Park, Calif.

Scobie, a Cal State Stanislaus sophomore, covered the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes 16 seconds. The top 15 finishers qualified for the Division II nationals.
