Four running backs from area junior colleges rank among the top five rushers in the Western State Conference.

LaShante Parker of Pierce--coming off two consecutive 200-yard performances--leads WSC backs with 1,112 yards in 160 carries, followed by Moorpark’s Jamal Anderson (873 in 129) and Valley’s Terrance Brown (801 in 103). Glendale fullback Rafik Thorossian is fifth with 688 yards in 117 carries.

Parker also is the conference scoring leader with 84 points (14 touchdowns).

The Northridge football team was beaten at its own game--ball control--against Portland State last week. Portland ran 82 plays to Northridge’s 59, gained 470 yards to CSUN’s 229 and had the ball almost 15 minutes more than the Matadors.

In the second quarter, Portland had the ball 7 minutes 10 seconds more than Northridge, and in the fourth quarter the difference was 9:56.

Linebacker Ken Vaughn has 200 tackles in his two-year career at Northridge and needs nine against Cal State Sacramento on Saturday to pass Reggie Wauls as the school’s all-time leader. Wauls, who played from 1985-86, had a school-record 126 tackles in his first season with the Matadors. Vaughn, a senior, needs 10 tackles to take over the lead in that category.

Portland broke Northridge tailback Bill Harris’ streak of three consecutive rushing performances of more than 100 yards. Harris gained 58 yards in 14 carries. . . .

Soccer: Although a 4-6-1 road record kept Northridge from reaching the NCAA Division I playoffs, the Matadors (13-6-1) won all nine of their home matches and finished as the ninth-ranked team in the Far West Region. They have won a school-record 13 consecutive home matches dating to last season.

Danny Daniels, a junior forward, totaled seven points on three goals and an assist in the final two matches to win his second consecutive team scoring title.

Daniels, 5-foot-7, 150 pounds, finished with 32 points (13 goals, six assists). Daniels, who ranked fourth in the Far West Region in goals scored, is eighth on Northridge’s career scoring list with 58 points. Two points are awarded for a goal, one for an assist.

Teammate Armando Valdivia, a sophomore forward-midfielder, concluded the season with a scoring surge. He had seven points in the last two matches to place second in points with 27. Valdivia, who led Northridge with 11 assists, had 17 points in CSUN’s final 10 games.

Northridge played in a school-record six overtime games, going 4-1-1. . . .

Joel Entreken, Northridge’s senior goalkeeper, finished his two-year college career ranked third in the Matador record book in saves (132), wins (19) and shutouts (six).

Terry Davila completed his four-year Northridge career as the school’s all-time leader in games played with 80.

Volleyball: Since totaling 32 kills in her first 17 matches of the season, Northridge junior Dawn Krenik has contributed 84 in her past eight matches. . . .

Nancy Nicholls, a middle hitter, has recorded at least 10 digs in seven consecutive matches. Teammate Karen Scholl, who leads the Matadors with 338 digs, has had 20 or more in five matches.
