SOUTHERN SECTION WATER POLO PLAYOFFS : El Dorado Edges Tustin to Reach Second Round
Leonard Drew scored a fourth-quarter goal to give El Dorado a 3-2 victory over Tustin in a Southern Section Division 4-A water polo match Friday at El Dorado.
Tustin, the third-place team from the Sea View League, had tied the score early in the fourth quarter on a goal by Patrick Collins. Drew scored the winning goal for the Hawks (19-8) with 2 minutes 21 seconds left.
Mikel Reta scored two goals for El Dorado, which led, 2-0, until Troy O’Neil scored in the third quarter for the Tillers (17-10).
In other 4-A matches:
Capistrano Valley 13, Buena Park 5--Alex Lesser and Trevor Rodin each scored three goals for No. 2-seeded Capistrano Valley (23-4). The Cougars will play El Dorado in the second round Tuesday at a site to be determined.
Corona del Mar 20, Long Beach Poly 5--The top-ranked, top-seeded Sea Kings had no trouble in their playoff opener at home.
Brent O’Brien, Austin Weir and Andrew Tahmoush each scored goals for Corona del Mar (24-2), which plays San Clemente Tuesday. Robbie Pike had 10 saves.
Dana Hills 12, Millikan 3--Jason Young and Charlie Shortt each scored three goals for Dana Hills (21-4) at Saddleback College. The Dolphins play Villa Park in the quarterfinals Tuesday at a site to be determined by a coin flip.
San Clemente 14, Sunny Hills 3--The Tritons (24-4) led, 9-0, at the half and cruised at Independence Park.
