San Marcos 35, Ventura 28--Cougar quarterback Trevor Rumsey threw an interception with 35 seconds to play at the San Marcos 15-yard line as visiting Ventura (7-3, 6-1) lost a shot at an outright league championship.

Derek Swafford scored on touchdown runs of 20 and six yards, but the Cougars failed to score on three possessions in the last five minutes. Swafford finished with 89 yards in 20 carries and teammate Devon Passno rushed for 104 in 11 carries.
