Top-seeded Christian won its second consecutive girls’ volleyball championship, scoring a 15-11, 16-14, 11-15, 15-11 Division V victory over The Bishop’s School Friday night at Mira Mesa High School.
Christian was led by Tiffany Stutz, who had 21 kills, and Leeana Miller with 10 kills, six stuff blocks and five service aces. Amy VanBibber had 34 assists. Kellie Gangwisch had 21 digs and Stutz had 19.
“Tiffany and Leeana played great tonight,” Christian Coach Kim Bell said. “It was a great match. They’re a good team, very tall, aggressive at the net, and we haven’t come across a lot of teams like that this season. It was a battle of the offenses.”
Christian won the Division IV championship last year over Calipatria. It was the Patriots’ third consecutive trip to the finals.
Kaylie Orr had 13 kills and seven blocks for Bishop’s (13-9), while teammate Kai Enos had 10 kills and four blocks.
The loss ended quite a run for Bishop’s, a Division 1-A school that scored a four-game victory over a 2-A school, second-seeded Francis Parker, en route to the finals for the first time. Bishop’s entered the 12-team playoffs as the No. 7 seed.
