OUTLOOK

Foster, the Mater Dei girls’ JV coach the past two seasons, joins the ranks of first-year coaches in the league. In the Argonauts, she has an inexperienced team but one with potential and one valuable asset: speed. “We have a very fast team,” Foster said. Bowers, an all-league player who averaged 10 points last season, and Lutz (7 ppg) are the key veterans whom Foster hopes will lead the Argonauts with their performance and poise. “I’m looking to Stephanie Bowers for some outstanding leadership as well as Denise Lutz,” Foster said. The newcomers should provide a solid supporting corp, particularly Murray, who hasn’t played on a high school team before, and Purcell. Said Foster: (Murray) is an excellent athlete. She has marvelous potential . . . (Purcell) is an exciting player to watch.” Garden Grove has been near the bottom of the league standings the past three seasons, but Foster said the girls are optimistic about their chances this year. “They believe they have as much of a right to a league title as any of the other teams do,” she said.
