PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : They Want to Show Bills Another Side
With much anticipation, the countdown to the Buffalo rematch begins. The Bills, who handed the Raiders a 51-3 defeat in last January’s AFC title game, visit the Coliseum next Sunday.
“I think we have a different team than the last time we played them,” Coach Art Shell said Monday.
There is more on the line than revenge. Buffalo (11-2) has clinched the AFC Eastern Division title but is seeking the home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
The Raiders (9-4) need one victory in their final three to clinch at least a wild-card spot.
As of Monday, about 25,000 tickets remained for the game, which must be a sellout by 1 p.m. Thursday for the game to be on local television.
Ronnie Lott, the Plan B safety, leads the NFL with seven interceptions. . . . Wide receiver-kick returner Sam Graddy missed his second consecutive game because of a sprained ankle Sunday. His status for the Buffalo game has not been determined.
The Raiders will probably keep the three-tailback rotation they used against the San Diego Chargers. Roger Craig and Marcus Allen did most of the first-half work, with rookie Nick Bell coming off the bench in the second half.
The three backs, and fullback Steve Smith, combined for 161 yards rushing, averaging 4.7 a carry. None had more than 10 carries.
