OUTLOOK

Chapman has an interesting outlook on his team’s goals. “Like everyone, we want to win league, win tournaments, have fun and learn while we’re doing it,” Chapman said. “Whether we accomplish any of those goals depends on how well we come together as a team.” Although he lists Capistrano Valley and San Clemente as the league favorites, Chapman has three returning starters to build around, including Newidouski, who averaged 13.8 points and 10 rebounds last year and earned first team all-league honors. Also back for the Dolphins is Haney, a second-team all-league selection who averaged 7.7 points and six rebounds. Grossman provides height at center, and Chapman hopes she’ll provide more scoring punch this year. Grina is expected to handle point guard duties for Dana Hills. Chapman says the Dolphins will be strong defensively and a decent rebounding team with Grossman, Haney, Hewko, Nelson, Regier and Newidouski available in the front court. The Dolphins need to find some consistent outside shooters to compete with the sharpshooters at Capistrano Valley (Alisa Farr and Angie White) and San Clemente (Maili Rohner and Dana Netherby).
