COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Women Reach State Volleyball
The Golden West women’s volleyball team defeated Los Angeles Pierce in three games Tuesday to advance to this weekend’s State championship tournament.
The Rustlers, 24-0 and the defending State champions, trailed in each of the first two games. Still, they won the first game, 15-12, and scored seven consecutive points to tie the score, 13-13, in the second before winning, 16-14. The Rustlers closed out the match, 15-6.
Tracy Schriber had a match-high 15 kills and Heather Flaherty had 12 kills and four aces for Golden West, which will be the top-seeded team in the eight-team State tournament field.
The tournament starts Friday at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo.
In another Southern California Regional final:
Ventura 3, Orange Coast 0--Kip Spath had 11 kills and Reiko Matsumoto had seven for seventh-seeded Orange Coast (16-5). Second-seeded Ventura is 21-0.
