Valley 74, Sacramento 73--Rosa Mendez hit a four-foot jump shot with two seconds left to give Valley (5-0), ranked No. 2 in the state, a first-round Sequoias tournament win.

Ventura 72, Cypress 57--Ventura rallied from a 15-point deficit at halftime in the first round of the Cypress tournament.

Cori Herman scored a game-high 27 points for Ventura (6-0), off to its best start since 1983.

El Camino Real 69, Belmont 63--Junior forward Markee Brown, given medical clearance to begin practicing Monday after missing three weeks while being tested for an irregular heartbeat, scored 33 points to lead the Conquistadores (1-2) in a nonleague game at Belmont.

Taft 70, Royal 63--Casey Sheahan scored 16 points and Miguel Carrillo added 14 to lead Taft (3-1) in a consolation game of the Simi Valley tournament. Brett Osterhoudt scored 20 points for Royal.

Granada Hills 70, Campbell Hall 56--Shelton Simmons had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead Granada Hills (2-2) to fifth place in the consolation bracket of the Simi Valley tournament.

Ventura 58, Santa Maria 50--Randy Martinez scored 19 points for Ventura (2-0) in a quarterfinal of the Nordhoff tournament.

Dorsey 84, Chatsworth 55--Junior center Brady Mertes scored a team-high 21 points and had 12 rebounds, but the Chancellors (2-1) were outscored, 23-12, in the fourth quarter of a nonleague game at Dorsey.

Grant 69, Canoga Park 51--Senior center Wayne Carlisle scored 13 of his 15 points in the third quarter to ignite visiting Grant in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game. Grant (1-1) led, 31-30, at halftime before Carlisle’s surge, which included two three-point baskets.

San Fernando 77, Hollywood 43--Host San Fernando held Hollywood scoreless until seven minutes into the nonleague game.

Chaminade 63, Village Christian 57--Bobby Holland scored 22 points for Chaminade (2-0) in a quarterfinal of the Faith Baptist tournament.

Montclair Prep 66, Holy Martyrs 46--Kris Johnson, a sophomore forward, scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Mounties (2-0) in a Faith Baptist quarterfinal.
