ROUNDUP : Crescenta Valley Wins Burbank-Hoover Title

Josh Willis scored 12 of his game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter to lead Crescenta Valley High to a 64-55 victory over Hoover in the championship game of the Burbank-Hoover basketball tournament Friday night at Hoover.

The Falcons are 3-0.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Harvard-Westlake 76, Montclair Prep 75--Harvard used two free throws by guard Greg Peters with seven seconds to play to post a 76-75 victory in a semifinal game of the Faith Baptist tournament.

After Peters, who finished with eight points, sank both free throws for Harvard, center Kris Johnson of Montclair Prep (2-1) nearly won the game with a turnaround jump shot from five feet.

But Johnson’s shot went halfway down and came back out, as did a tip-in try by forward Chris Sanger at the buzzer.

Johnson led Montclair Prep with 26 points and Sanger added 17; center Rob Venick led Harvard with 17 points. Forward J.W. Hobson had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the winners.

Faith Baptist 68, Chaminade 41--Alex Estrada scored a game-high 20 points and Etienne Moore added 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead Faith Baptist in the semifinals of the Faith Baptist tournament.

Verbum Dei 65, Notre Dame 58--The Knights trailed by 15 with six minutes remaining in the consolation championship of the Loyola tournament but pulled to within five, 63-58, with 30 seconds to play behind an 8-2 run that was capped by a Damon Germanides three-point basket.

Verbum Dei made six of seven free throws in the fourth quarter to keep Notre Dame (1-2) at bay.

Channel Islands 77, Camp Kilpatrick 35--Omar Soto scored a game-high 18 points and Dewauen Nunnery added 16 points for Channel Islands (1-1) in a consolation game of the Nordhoff tournament.

Arroyo Grande 56, Crespi 53 (OT)--Center Randy Coleman scored 20 points and forward Matt Carpenter added 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but Crespi (1-2) missed two three-point shots in the final 10 seconds of overtime in a consolation game of the San Luis Obispo tournament.

Bell-Jeff 57, Morro Bay 48--Bryan Camacho scored 18 points and had eight assists to lead the Guards (2-1) to a consolation semifinal victory at the Morro Bay tournament.

Brian Lee added 12 points and Marc Sailer contributed eight points and 10 rebounds for Bell-Jeff.

Fillmore 65, Moorpark 55--Fillmore scored the last nine points to secure a berth in the consolation final of the Moorpark tournament. Rudy Alcantar led the Flashes (2-2) with a game-high 25 points and teammate Danny Ocegueda added 19.

Providence 86, West L.A. Baptist 44--Hagop Yaglian scored a game-high 23 points and had six steals to pace Providence (1-0) in a first-round game of the Providence tournament.

Robert Mena added 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Chaminade 56, St. Genevieve 48--Aubrey Tompkins scored a game-high 15 points and teammate Alberta Mitchell grabbed 15 rebounds for Chaminade (5-0) in an L. A. Baptist tournament semifinal game.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Master’s 82, Sonoma State 72--The Master’s overcame a four-point halftime deficit to defeat Sonoma State (3-1).

Damon Greer scored a game-high 21 points for Master’s (4-3) and teammate Tom Bruner added 19.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UC Irvine 74, Cal State Northridge 64--The Matadors rebounded from an 11-point deficit to a one-point lead with seven minutes left but a pair of three-point baskets by Kathy Lizarrga (game-high 22 points) put UC Irvine ahead for good in a first-round game of the Freedom Bowl Classic at Bren Center.

The loss was the sixth in a row for Northridge (0-6) despite outshooting the Anteaters (2-2) from the field, 47% to 45%, and at the free-throw line, 71% to 61%. Forward Haily Griffith scored 15 points to lead the Matadors, who had five players score in double figures.

Christ College 76, Cal Lutheran 42--Genevieve Graff scored 17 points and reserve Kaisa Kepsu had 16 for the winners. Stacy Kirch added 10 points and six assists. Cal Lutheran was led by Evelyn Albert with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

American River 67, Moorpark 66--Pamela Pacheco scored a game-high 22 points and three other Moorpark players scored 10 points each, but the Raiders were eliminated from the Cypress tournament when April Davenport made a four-foot jump shot at the buzzer.
