In other Southern Section playoff action:
Irvine 27, Pasadena Muir 17--Irvine took advantage of three Muir turnovers in the final six minutes to pull out a victory in a Southern Section Division II semifinal game at Glendale High.
With Irvine ahead, 20-17, a pass by Muir quarterback Robbyn Turner was intercepted by Aaron Herr at the Irvine goal line on a third-and-goal play.
Seven plays later, Irvine had to punt from midfield. Muir’s Saladin McCullough bobbled the punt into his end zone, however, and Chris Waite recovered for a touchdown to give the Vaqueros a 27-17 lead with 2:44 remaining.
On the ensuing kickoff, Muir could not handle the ball again, and Matt Rogers recovered for Irvine, which ran out the clock.
Irvine (11-2) will play Dana Hills in an all-South Coast League matchup for the division championship Saturday night. It will be Irvine’s first appearance in a title game.
