OUTLOOK

Youth and inexperience abound on this year’s Bruin team, but Morales chooses to look at the positive side of that equation. “It kind of makes it nice,” said Morales, now in his sixth year with the team. “They’ll play together for the next few years.” Needless to say, Morales is looking to build. “I think we have a good foundation,” he said. “I’m looking to go .500 and maybe take third place in league and give people a challenge.” Fiola, who averaged 10 points and five assists last year, is one of the key players Morales needs to perform well for the Bruins to improve on their sixth-place finish in the eight-team Express League last year. Another is newcomer Harmel, already the starting center though only a sophomore. “He’s an excellent outside shooter,” Morales said. “He’s a little bit timid outside. We need to toughen him up a little bit on the inside.” Hoang, also in his first season on the squad, figures prominently in Morales’ plans. “He’ll get a lot of time at point guard. He’s fitting right into the program,” Morales said. Bryant (nine rebounds per game last year) will provide help around the boards.
