Mike Jagd’s final match as El Toro girls’ volleyball coach was also one of his toughest to watch. The Chargers outlasted Lakewood St. Joseph, 15-13, 15-13, 11-15, 12-15, 17-15, Saturday for the State Division I title. The match lasted 2 hours 40 minutes.

The normally stoic Jagd finally cracked a smile after Amanda Burrows’ stuff block gave the Chargers match point and their first State title. Afterward, he struggled to put his last match into perspective.

“I had forgot it was my last match until my assistant coach told me, ‘This is it, this is your last timeout you’ll call, your last match,’ ” Jagd said. “I think I was more emotional on Friday, when I was setting up the practice nets for the last time. I was calm then, and it gave me a chance to think about it.”
