COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cerritos Beats Cypress for Championship
Javier Zavala scored 19 points and tournament MVP Matt Mitchell added 14 to lead Cerritos to an 82-74 victory over Cypress Saturday night in the championship game of the Cypress Tournament.
The Falcons had five players score in double figures, including Jeff Polloreno, who had three three-pointers and 15 points. Tim Tillman scored 16 points to lead Cypress (7-4).
Former Capistrano Valley star Bill Mazurie scored 14 points for Cerritos (10-2).
In the third-place game of the Santa Barbara men’s tournament:
Ventura 82, Saddleback 67: Jason Liebl and Michael Tate each scored 14 points to lead a balanced attack for Ventura (11-3) at Santa Barbara City College. Ray Ankton and Jody Smith scored 16 apiece for Saddleback (3-6).
At the College of the Canyons women’s tournament:
Golden West 104, Canyon 73--Frances Oda had a career high 30 points for Golden West (11-3) as they defeated Canyon (5-8), to take third place in the tournament.
