PREP ROUNDUP : No. 2 Orange Rallies to Tie Trabuco Hills in Boys’ Soccer

Juan Viveros scored with about 15 minutes remaining and Orange, ranked second in Orange County, salvaged a 2-2 tie with unranked Trabuco Hills in a nonleague boys’ soccer match Monday at Trabuco Hills.

Trabuco Hills (2-3-3), playing its first match in its new stadium, took a 2-0 lead when David Revell scored with six seconds left in the first half. In the second half, Rene Guardado rebounded a shot by Robert Rodriguez and scored for Orange (5-0-2). Viveros scored his goal on a penalty kick.

In other nonleague boys’ soccer:

Corona del Mar 2, Mater Dei 0--Ryan Muzzy had 11 saves in his fourth shutout of the season for the host Sea Kings (7-0-1). Scott English and Scott Owen each scored for Corona del Mar, ranked No. 4 in the county.

San Clemente 1, Santa Margarita 0--With two minutes remaining, Aaron Hennings scored on an indirect free kick inside the penalty box for the Tritons (3-3-1).

Servite 4, Glenn 2--Gary Schoeman broke a 2-2 tie by scoring on a header late in the first half for Servite (4-0-1). Clay Harty, who scored the tying goal, got the assist.

Troy 4, Valencia 2--Fullback Mark Lowe intercepted a pass and scored from 45 yards for Troy’s third goal. Derek Gomez clinched the victory by scoring on a penalty kick. Sergio Victoria headed in a Mario Torres corner kick to score Valencia’s first goal. Troy is 2-1-2 and Valencia is 2-4-2.

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

Mater Dei 78, St. Bernard 40--Reggie Geary scored 22 points for the Monarchs (9-0), the top-ranked team in the county. Miles Simon added 10 points and six rebounds for Mater Dei, which made all 19 of its shots from the free-throw line.

Sunny Hills 76, Cerritos Valley Christian 48--Terry Mann had 23 points and 13 rebounds and Tobin Hobbs scored 14 points for Sunny Hills (7-1).

In the Cypress girls’ basketball tournament:

Marina 73, Kennedy 33--Marina forward Jessica Trippet dominated, getting career highs in scoring (23 points) and rebounding (14) in a second-round game. Aimee Periolat added 12 points for the Vikings (7-0).

Edison 56, Huntington Beach 53--Melanie Iwamasa had 18 points and Joan Paje added 17 in a second-round game. Janette Oriza led Edison (2-1) in rebounds with 10.

In the Bolsa Grande girls’ basketball tournament:

Estancia 51, Western 40--Monique Sweet scored 15 points and Leah Braatz added 14 for the Eagles in the first-round game.
