The Master’s 63-60 victory over Albertson College in a men’s basketball game Monday was notable for several reasons, among them a 28-3 run by the Mustangs that put them in the lead.

Some others:

* In beating Albertson (formerly College of Idaho), the top-ranked team in the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics Division II, Master’s (6-3) increased its winning streak to three.

* Tom Bruner scored a team-high 15 points to move up to No. 4 on Master’s all-time scoring list with 1,662 career points. Bruner is only 29 points behind No. 3 Phil Hahn (1985-89). Bruner ranks sixth in rebounding with 725 in his career.

* Master’s won despite season lows in total points (63), field-goal percentage (.419), three-point percentage (.308) and free-throw percentage (.438). Master’s also had lows in turnovers (10) and personal fouls (10). . . .

Through eight games last season, the Cal State Northridge men’s basketball team had a 2-6 record and its margin of defeat was 19.3 points a game.

This season, the Matadors are 0-8 and they are losing by 13.2 points per game. . . .

Northridge had a season low in turnovers with 12 against Boise State and Utah. . . .

Shelton Boykin had a season-high five assists against Utah. . . .

Senior guard Christine Rumfola of the Northridge women’s basketball team averaged just 1.7 points a game last season in limited action, but she scored a career-high 20 against Northern Arizona on Saturday. She leads the team with an 8.4 scoring average. . . .

Jody Bittner, a junior forward for Northridge, has scored 50 points in the past three games (shooting eight of 12 from the field in each game). She ranks third on the team in scoring average (7.6) despite starting only four of 11 games. . . .

The Northridge women’s team recorded a season high for points in a 91-76 loss to Northern Arizona. . . .

Football: Cal Lutheran’s rushing defense was rated 13th in Division III in final statistics released by the NCAA. The Kingsmen’s defense was ranked 21st overall, allowing an average of 234.3 yards a game (only 78.4 on the ground).

However, eight of Cal Lutheran’s key defensive players--including free safety Mike Sylvester, the team’s best hitter who had 57 tackles, a fumble recovery and four interceptions--have completed their eligibility.

Pete Pistone, who averaged 38.2 yards a punt, ranked 18th in Division III.
