Huntington Beach’s Jeff Deffenbaugh leads the list of 18 surfers and bodyboarders named to the Nike Aqua Gear Sunset Surfing League All-Star team.
Deffenbaugh, who won the league’s individual championship, led the Oilers to the team title and a 10-0 record. Huntington Beach’s Andy Verdone was named coach of the year.
Other surfers named to the team were Maria Cerda (Huntington Beach), Geoff Daly (Ocean View), Jeff Day (Westminster), Jason Gonterman (Edison), Jason Harcharic (Marina), Mike Mattison (Huntington Beach), Scotty Klein (Huntington Beach), Amy Lagera (Edison), Sunshine Mehler (Huntington Beach), Jon McGee (Marina), Jeremy Smith (Marina), James Taylor (Marina), Corey Tomasewski (Fountain Valley), John Zimmerman (Huntington Beach), and bodyboarders Adam Leache (Huntington Beach), Jeremy Oderkirk (Edison) and Ryan Mahar (Edison).
The all-stars will compete against an Australian all-star team that will be touring the United States in February.
