Northridge Tackle Goodman Selected to Little All-American Football Team
Despite his team’s 3-7 record, Cal State Northridge senior offensive tackle Don Goodman was named to the Associated Press Little All-American team Thursday.
“I’m excited,” Goodman said by phone from Phoenix. “I didn’t really think I had a good chance. I was thinking since we didn’t have as much success that guys wouldn’t be noticed.”
Said Northridge Coach Bob Burt: “It stands to reason. The guy was a first team All-American in high school (Huntington Beach) and a first team All-American in junior college (Cerritos), so he would be a first team Division II All-American.
“And he hasn’t even lived up to his potential really. With patience and really hard work he can do well in the NFL. He is a really great talent.”
Goodman (6-foot-8, 300 pounds), who signed with agent Bruce Allen, is in Phoenix working out with a personal trainer hired by Allen to prepare for the NFL scouting combine Feb. 5-10 in Indianapolis.
Former Newbury Park High and Moorpark College standout Jayson Merrill of Western College in Gunnison, Colo., was a third-team selection at quarterback.
