GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Costa Sparks Chaminade to 56-51 Victory

Maria Costa scored 16 points and Katy Bloodgood added 14 to lead Chaminade High past Antelope Valley, 56-51, Thursday in a quarterfinal game of the Burroughs/Bell-Jeff tournament.

Shawntee Mitchell had 10 points and eight rebounds and Georgia Roy had 11 rebounds for Chaminade (11-2). Brandee Sayles had 28 points for Antelope Valley.

In other Burroughs/Bell-Jeff tournament games:

Bell-Jeff 45, Huntington Park 35--Christina Ticsay and Lori Talley each scored 11 points for Bell-Jeff (7-1) in a quarterfinal.

Brentwood 33--Nikki Mayfield had eight points and nine rebounds to lead Burroughs in a quarterfinal.

MARLBOROUGH TOURNAMENT

Holy Martyrs 64, Marlborough 47--Holy Martyrs won the championship behind Melo Derdanielian (12 points), Linda Dukmajian (10), Aline Altibarmakian (10) and Karineh Abramians (10).

Oak Park 55, Oakwood 25--Alexa Valavanis scored 18 points to lead Oak Park in the third-place game.

CAMPBELL HALL TOURNAMENT

Montclair Prep 29, Windward 27--Patty Shaw had 15 points to lead Montclair Prep.

NONLEAGUE

Alemany 62, Garden Grove 29--Samantha Rigley had 12 assists and 11 rebounds to lead Alemany (9-2) in a nonleague game at Garden Grove. Sarah Guziel scored a game-high 14 points and Zevette Mitchell had 13 rebounds for Alemany.

Notre Dame 38, Burbank 37--Araceli Romero had 11 points for the Knights.

Eagle Rock 45, Crescenta Valley 44--Yammir Carbonell scored a team-high 15 points for Eagle Rock.

Highland Hall 33, Providence 24--Kristen Johansen scored 11 points to lead visiting Highland Hall (5-0).
