Jim Wright, who coached Bolsa Grande during the recently concluded football season, has been dismissed from that post, Bolsa Grande Principal Bob Mesa said Thursday.

“I just terminated his contract to coach the football team,” Mesa said. “I want the football program to go a certain direction. (Wright) did a good job but I’m looking to go a different way. You could say there were philosophical differences.”

Wright took over the Bolsa Grande program just before the 1991 season began. The Matadors were 1-9 overall and finished last in the Garden Grove League with a 0-7 record. Wright had coached at West Covina High for one season and at various Arizona high schools for several years before going to Bolsa Grande.

No replacement has been named, but Mesa said the Garden Grove Unified School District will post the job opening so that those interested can apply.
