At Hoover

Vista 119, Hoover 42--The Panthers romped to the 77-point victory after outscoring the Cardinals, 23-8, in the first quarter and 41-4 in the second quarter, and they set a San Diego Section for most three-point field goals in a game with 18. Jason Barnes (16 points) have five of them. Raul Tovar scored 17 and Dave Dillon 16. Vista racked up nine three-pointers in that second period.

Southwest 53, Mission Bay 47--Tony Diaz (19 points) and Leo Vargas (12) paced the Raiders (2-4), despite being held to two second-quarter points. Rick Moe’s 17 points, including four three-pointers, led the Bucs (2-6).

Chula Vista 71, La Jolla 62--Alberto Marzan scored 16 points but his 19 rebounds were instrumental in controlling La Jolla (5-6). Teammates Jerome Green contributed 20 points and seven rebounds, Michael Peterson had 11 points and Lamar Bailey helped with seven assists. The Vikings’ Ken Kavanaugh’s 22 points were a game high. Chula Vista improved to 4-4.

at Serra

Kearny 66, Madison 58--The No. 6 Komets rolled to 8-0 and into Monday’s final against Poway with a second-half comeback. Trailing 36-33 at intermission, Kearny outscored the Warhawks (4-5) in the second half, 33-22. Damion Victor and Ali Nayab led the Komets with 18 and 17 points, while Matt Baker paced Madison with 20.

Bonita Vista 66, Anaheim Canyon 57--Two Baron players rose to the occasion after forward Frank Peralta (25 points in two previous games) was one of two players ejected for shoving in the second quarter. Gerald Rhoden scored 12 of his game-high 22 points in Bonita’s 19-10 second period and before Danny Harward scored nine of his 14 in the fourth. Yannis Pappas led Canyon with 16.

Mt. Carmel 75, Serra 48--The Sundevils’ size kept the Serra (4-2) from getting second shots on offense and that proved fatal in a 20-6 second quarter. Scott Schoenwald led Mt. Carmel with 20 points, while Derek Wessel chipped in with 15 and Chris Goode was good for 12. Tony Etheridge had1 13 for Serra.

Torrey Pines 79, (Las Vegas) Bonanza 68--The five starters scored in double figures and the bench was scoreless as the Falcons improved to 4-2. Scot Pollard scored a game-high 23 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots as Torrey Pines is headed to Monday’s championship game. Kaesh Easterwood scored 20 points for Bonanza (4-1).

Trabuco Hills 73, San Dieguito 65--Corey Klinke scored 21 points and 6-foot-10 center Gavin Vanderputten added 17 to put Trabuco Hills into Monday’s 8:15 p.m. final against Torrey Pines. The Mustangs (4-3) got 18 from Kurt Weikum and 17 from David Demian.

St. Bernard 72, Rancho Bernardo 51--St. Bernard dominated the game from start to finish, outscoring the Broncos in every quarter, and earned the right to face Crescenta Valley for the consolation championship Monday. Bill McMahon and Kirk Hipple had 17 points each for Rancho Bernardo.

Crescenta Valley 47, Dana Hills 34--Crescenta Valley started to pull away, albeit slowly, when it outscored Dana Hills, 7-1, in the third quarter. Josh Willis led the winners, who will play for the consolation title Monday, with 12 points.

Fallbrook 60, Escondido 57--The Warriors’ three-point halftime lead stood up in a 30-30 second half. Brandon Phillips and Chris Miller led Fallbrook with 17 and 16 points, while Damian Cephas led the Cougars with 22.

Rancho Buena Vista 56, San Pasqual 49--The Longhorns trailed, 30-25, at halftime then outscored the Golden Eagles, 15-6, in the third quarter and 18-13 in the fourth. Evan Osmundson had 21 and Mike Ross 17 for RBV, while David Durst, on five three-pointers, led San Pasqual with 17.

Consolation Game

El Camino 48, Oakland St. Mary’s 46--Mike Booker grabbed three key rebounds, two defensively, in the final 30 seconds as the No. 1 Wildcats (5-1) held on to win the consolation game. Guard Chris Dade had nine points to lead El Camino, the defending champions who lost to Chico, 51-45, in Thursday’s first round while Dade was being benched. Dade wound up scoring 31 points in two games and making the all-tournament team. St. Mary’s fell to 8-2.

Nonleague

Santa Clara 64, USDHS 45--The Dons’ got as close as nine points in the third quarter but an untimely foul put USDHS’s game in a downwind spiral. Ian Hamilton and Jerry Prior had 11 points apiece for USDHS (1-3) and teammate Mike Sexton added 10. Santa Clara improved to 6-2.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions

Allison Brady scored 14 points, and Lorri Sulpizio added 13 to lead Poway, ranked seventh in the state, to a 54-41 victory over Inglewood Morningside in a third-round game. On Monday, Poway (5-1) meets Brea-Olinda, ranked fourth in the state, for fifth place.
