Harvard-Westlake High will join the Mission League...

Harvard-Westlake High will join the Mission League next season for boys’ basketball. If the result of last week’s nonleague game against Mission member Crespi is any indication, batten the hatches for 1992-93.

Crespi outraced Harvard, 110-103, in double overtime. From the outset--the teams combined for 54 points in the first quarter--it was destined for a double dose of triple digits. The teams reached the 20-point plateau six times in eight quarters of regulation.

Three players scored 20 points or more for Crespi, which won its fourth consecutive game: Rob Leff (32), Randy Coleman (26) and Jeff Luderer (20). Tarlin Ray (35) and Greg Peters (25) turned the trick for Harvard. While the astronomical scoring total was attributable to the up-tempo pace, Luderer’s consistency played a huge role in the victory. He made 14 of 14 free throws.

Offense: North Hollywood off-guard Robert Hill is a streak shooter. His coach knows it. So does the opposition. So does the stat sheet.

In the Huskies’ 60-58 victory over Chatsworth in the North Hollywood tournament final, Hill made one of his first 10 shots but Coach Steve Miller refused to turn off the green light. “If you tell him to stop shooting,” Miller said, “he won’t shoot at all.”

Hill got hot in the third quarter, making seven of his next eight attempts from the field, including four three-point baskets. Hill then missed his final two shots to complete a 25-point, eight-for-20 shooting performance. He made five of six free throws. Hill is averaging 11.8 points a game. . . .

Three North Hollywood players have double-figure averages: Damon Ollie (15.9), DeShawn Harvey (14.8) and Hill. The Huskies have outscored opponents by an average of 29.1 points a game. . . . Grant’s Wayne Carlisle is averaging 17.5 points and 8.3 rebounds and has blocked 24 shots in eight games. . . .

Two Sherman Oaks CES players are averaging better than 10 points a game: sophomore Barry McWright (15) and senior Khalif Muhammed (12). . . . Verdugo Hills junior guard Eddie Powell is averaging 24.7 points after nine games, and teammate Chan Cornish, a sophomore forward, is averaging 17.2 points and 11.5 rebounds. . . .

Senior swingman Tim Sebek has been a triple threat for Nordhoff, averaging 25 points, 13 rebounds and six assists a game. . . . Westlake senior forward Joey Leavitt is shooting 66% from the field (49 of 74). . . . In Channel Islands’ 56-48 win Saturday over Lompoc, senior forward Noe Noyola scored 16 points in the first quarter and finished with a career-high 24. . . .

Newbury Park senior forward Jason Patterson has averaged 11.3 points and 8.5 rebounds through nine games. He is shooting 55% from two-point range, is six of 11 from three-point range and has made 18 of 19 free throws (95%). . . . Newbury Park senior Sean McKeown, a forward, is averaging 5.7 assists.

Defense: Bell-Jeff’s 6-foot-6 senior center, Joe Bunning, had 20 blocks in the North Hollywood tournament. Bunning was an all-tournament selection. . . . Saugus’ Chris Hernandez had 10 steals in a nonleague game against Hart.

Soccer: Nordhoff girls’ goalie Tacy Franklin had a string of 274 scoreless minutes snapped in a 4-1 victory over Santa Ynez last week. It was the first goal Franklin, or Nordhoff, had allowed this season. Nordhoff striker Charlee Bell scored all four goals in that game, leaving her one short of the school single-game record set two years ago by Rachelle Fleming.
