PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Kenyon Scores Both Goals, Leads El Toro Past El Dorado

Denise Kenyon scored both goals in the second half for El Toro in a 2-0 victory over El Dorado Friday in the Bracket C championship of the Foothill Excalibur Tournament.

El Dorado goalie Brenda Lynch had 12 saves. El Dorado is 5-4-1 and El Toro is 11-2.

In other championship games:

Edison 1, Capistrano Valley 1 (Edison advances on penalty kicks)--Stephanie Heinke stopped four of five penalty kicks during a shootout to give Edison (8-2-3) the victory in the Bracket B championship. Capistrano Valley’s Kim McKay scored in the first half. Edison’s Christine Tyler tied the score in the second half.

Simi Valley 0, Mission Viejo 0 (Simi Valley advances on penalty kicks)--Goalie Jennifer Holman had six saves for Simi Valley (10-0-0), which won, 3-2, in a shootout in the Bracket A championships. Mission Viejo goalie Erin Cora had five saves. Mission Viejo is 10-5-0.

In consolation matches:

San Clemente 3, Foothill 2--Leah Carey scored San Clemente’s winning goal late in the first half. Amanda Schwer and Vicky Lara each scored for Foothill (0-8-0). San Clemente is 2-5-1.

Trabuco Hills 1, Chino 1 (Trabuco Hills advances on penalty kicks)--Marcie Hughes scored for Trabuco Hills (1-0), which won the match in a shootout.

Fountain Valley 1, El Modena 0--Jeanne Ashcraft scored for Fountain Valley (6-4-2) in the first half. Goalie Amy Moreno had five saves for El Modena (1-5-0).

Villa Park 1, University 0--Meghan Reppe scored for Villa Park (5-4-0).

Fountain Valley 1, San Clemente 0--Carla Jacobs scored in the second half for Fountain Valley (7-4-2).

Trabuco Hills 1, Villa Park 0--Lindsey Rogers scored in the second half for Trabuco Hills (8-3-2). Irvine 1, Los Alamitos 0--Traci Broughton scored in the first half for Irvine (10-2-0).

Dana Hills 2, Esperanza 0--Jenny Uriarte and Jolene Innis each scored for Dana Hills (8-4-2).

In the Sunny Hills girls’ tournament:

Sunny Hills 3, Buena 1--Fullback Michael Cunningham scored the Lancers’ final goal from 35 yards out.

Fullerton 1, Ventura 1--Deborah Hargave scored off a header for Fullerton (2-5-2) late in the second half to tie the game. She scored on sister Kristin Hargave’s corner kick assist.

In the Marina boys’ tournament:

Anaheim 3, Canyon 2--Armondo Solis scored two goals for Anaheim in the second-round match.

Anaheim 4, University 2--Ramon Camacho, Alex Perez, Solis and Angel Gonzalez scored for Anaheim, which led, 3-0, at the half in the first-round match.

Huntington Beach 3, Tustin 1--Mike Mendell scored in each half and Robert Ryan had the Oilers’ other goal. Tim Wilson scored for Tustin.

Glendale 1, Huntington Beach 1 (Glendale wins on penalty kicks)--Despite the loss, Huntington Beach still advanced to a quarterfinal game against Mater Dei. Jason Greasley’s second-half goal tied the game for the Oilers.

In the Orange boys’ tournament:

Santa Ana 1, Edison 0--Jose Luis Ramirez scored with 25 minutes left to give the Saints the victory in the championship semifinal game. Jose Barbosa made seven saves as the Southern Section 4-A champions, ranked fifth in the county, improved to 8-2. Edison, ranked sixth, fell to 6-1-2.

Ocean View 4, Orange 2--Ryan Robertson, Steve Konecy and Luan Lai scored second-half goals as the Seahawks (7-3-2) snapped a 1-1 halftime tie in a championship semifinal game. Robertson also scored in the first half. Orange is 8-2-2.

Foothill 1, Mission Viejo 0--Steve Patterson scored 20 minutes into second half on a breakaway for Foothill (3-2-5). Foothill moves on to the consolation final against El Dorado at 3:15 p.m. today.

In the first round of the La Verne Damian boys’ tournament:

Newport Harbor 0, Santa Barbara 0 (Newport Harbor advances on penalty kicks)--Newport Harbor (1-1-4) advanced with a 4-3 victory in penalty kicks.
