Sour Grapes Prompted Allegations

The person who wrote about the “immoral and unethical values” of Montclair Prep administrators, faculty and boosters should learn the facts before making such erroneous allegations. The action taken by the Alpha League administrators is a rash decision based on rumors and what sounds like hard feelings and sour grapes.

I have been on the varsity basketball team at Montclair for four years. In that time there has never been an allegation, much less proven fact, regarding any illegal activity of any player or coach on the team.

All allegations against Montclair were concerning football, and yet, all sports were penalized. The fact that the prime witness against Montclair has recanted his testimony seems to have gotten no notice while headlines proclaiming “Alpha League Message to Montclair Lauded” suggest that the L.A. Times is not objective in its coverage of the charges against Montclair.

As a result of the CIF decision, my team has been denied the postseason play to which all teams are now entitled. And some, like Mr. Gordon (Letters, Dec. 18) still want more penalties for Montclair.

The decision to reconsider postseason play for remaining sports comes up in January. My teammates and I still believe in ethical and moral values and would hope that the Southern Section, Alpha League and L.A. Times would take the time to reflect on them as well.
