ROUNDUP : Greer Caps Comeback for Master’s

Senior point guard Damon Greer twice converted free throws in the final seconds of an NAIA District 3 basketball game to hand Master’s an 84-83 victory over host Azusa Pacific on Tuesday night.

Greer, from Cleveland High, made the front end of a one-and-one opportunity with five seconds remaining to tie the score, 83-83. Greer missed the second attempt, but Master’s controlled the rebound and Greer was fouled while shooting.

Greer, who finished with 11 points, four assists and five rebounds, made one of two free throws with two seconds left to hand Master’s (10-7, 3-0 in district play) the comeback victory.

Ten minutes into the first half, Azusa Pacific (9-7, 1-1) held a 38-21 lead.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Santa Clara 84, Moorpark 41--Stevie Amar scored a game-high 18 points for host Santa Clara (11-3) and teammate Isaiah Mustafa added 17 although each played just two quarters.

Santa Clara led, 22-6, after one quarter in the nonleague game, and outscored Moorpark, 43-16, in the second half.

Bishop Amat 68, Glendale 54--The Dynamiters’ David Sofro (14), Mike Wright (13) and Hai Tran (11) each scored in double figures for Glendale (10-6).

Bishop Amat (8-7) outscored Glendale, 21-11, in the second quarter and the Dynamiters did not recover from the 41-28 halftime deficit.

Crossroads 69, Faith Baptist 61--Faith Baptist made just 24 of 63 shots from the field (38.1%) and fell in its Delphic League opener at Brentwood.

Senior guard Alex Estrada scored a team-high 13 points for Faith Baptist (9-5, 0-1).

Montclair Prep 74, Ribet Christian 49--Point guard Steve Cain scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Mounties in a nonleague game at home.

Forward Kris Johnson scored a game-high 23 points and had 11 rebounds and teammate Jared Sonne scored 14 points for Montclair Prep (13-1), which has won 11 games in a row.

Campbell Hall 76, Whitney 49--Small forward Taylor Williams scored a season-high 21 points to lead the Vikings in a Delphic League opener at home.

Austin McKellar had 12 points and seven assists for Campbell Hall (7-4).

L.A. Lutheran 65, Pacific Christian 36--Thirteen of 14 players scored for L.A. Lutheran (8-3, 2-0), which led, 40-18, at halftime of the Heritage League game.

Providence 73, First Lutheran 46--Barry Dabbaghian scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Providence (4-6) in a nonleague game at home.

Ernie Godinez scored 15 points for Providence and teammate Hagop Yaglian scored 14 points and had five steals.

L.A. Baptist 75, Fillmore 51--Mark Heerema scored 22 points and Brad Imbler added 13 to lead host L.A. Baptist (8-4) in a nonleague game. Matt Kilanowski scored 10 points and Max Lile had 10 assists for L.A. Baptist.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Thousand Oaks 89, Royal 18--Host Thousand Oaks led, 46-4, at halftime of its Marmonte League opener and coasted to an easy victory.

Marion Jones scored 24 points and added 13 rebounds and Michelle Palmisano had a game-high 29 points for the Lancers (11-1.

Simi Valley 67, Agoura 34--Heather Eubanks led Simi Valley (5-5, 1-0) with 13 points and Nikki Spindler added 10 points and 10 rebounds in a Marmonte League game at Agoura.

Westlake 56, Newbury Park 33--Lauren Goldstine had 20 points and 18 rebounds to lead host Westlake (9-3) in a Marmonte League opener. Marlee Organ also scored 20 points for the Warriors, who led, 20-7, after one quarter.

Marcie James scored 16 points for Newbury Park (6-5).

Chaminade 50, Louisville 24--Maria Costa scored a game-high 20 points to lead Chaminade (12-4) in a nonleague game at home.

Aubrey Tompkins added 10 points and eight assists for Chaminade.

Oak Park 44, Faith Baptist 20--Alexa Valvanis scored 12 points and Bethany Goad added 10 in the Eagles’ nonleague victory over visiting Faith Baptist.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Harvard-Westlake 3, L.A. Baptist 0--Jed Thayer, David Moran and Dwight Angelini scored for the Wolverines (7-3-2) in the nonleague match at home.

Calabasas 4, Oak Park 1--Dan Rosenbloom, Jason Lonas, Adam Cooper and Bhret Haessig scored for host Calabasas (9-2-1) in a nonleague match.
