Thousand Oaks’ Jones Injures Wrist

Marion Jones, a standout basketball player and national-class sprinter from Thousand Oaks High, sustained a dislocated wrist Thursday in the third quarter of the Lancers’ 83-46 Marmonte League victory over host Simi Valley.

The junior forward was taken by ambulance to Simi Valley Adventist Hospital where she was sedated before doctors reset her left wrist and placed it in a cast, Thousand Oaks Coach Chuck Brown said.

Jones, attempting a layup on a breakaway, landed on her chin and her left wrist after having her feet cut from under her.

“She stole ball--intercepted the ball--down court, and had a full head of steam,” Brown said.

Jones, who transferred from Rio Mesa in December, finished with 10 points.

Michelle Palmisano led the Lancers with 37 points. Thousand Oaks (12-1, 2-0 in league play) hit five of five three-point shots, including four by Palmisano, in the first quarter en route to a 30-6 lead. Palmisano had 21 points in the quarter.
