A balanced attack helped Ocean View defeat Edison, 2-0, in a Sunset League boys’ soccer match Friday at Ocean View High School.

Ocean View, ranked third in the Orange County coaches’ poll, outplayed and outmaneuvered seventh-ranked Edison to win its second consecutive league match. Ocean View (9-4-2, 2-0 in league) has won five of its past six matches. The Seahawks’ most-recent loss was to Santa Ana in the Orange tournament Dec. 28.

Friday, midfielder Ryan Robertson scored Ocean View’s first goal 7 minutes 25 seconds into the first half. Robertson, a senior, who has scored seven goals this season, headed in the ball from eight yards after receiving a crossing pass from Ryan Schomberg.

Forward Chris Martin beat an Edison defender to the ball and kicked it past Edison goalkeeper Brian Ritchel, who had six saves, for Ocean View’s second goal. Daniel Tomlin assisted on the play.

Edison (6-4-2) made several rushes in the closing minutes. Edison’s best attempt came with eight minutes left when Andy Juric got free and kicked a line drive toward Ocean View’s goal, but the ball went to the left of the net.

“We created opportunities today,” Ocean View Coach Paul Kollar said. “We’ve been getting very balanced scoring.”

Forward Luan Lai leads the team in scoring with eight goals, but four players have scored in the past two games for Ocean View. Kevin Coye and Bradley Walker scored in Ocean View’s 2-0 defeat of Huntington Beach Wednesday.

“The last few games, our team has been coming together,” Kollar said. “We’re playing real well and our players know their roles on the field and understand (each other).”
