School: Huntington Beach High

Sport: Basketball

Position: Center

Class: Senior

As Huntington Beach’s third-leading scorer, Wistrick doesn’t usually receive much attention from opposing defenses. Clare Walker, who is averaging 20 points and 16 rebounds, and Deana Itow, who is averaging 15 points and 11 assists, have overshadowed Wistrick. “I don’t think many people know much about her,” Huntington Beach Coach Nick Bartlett said. “They give her too much room. Maybe she is a secret weapon, but she won’t be after the last two games.” Tuesday, Wistrick scored 10 of her 22 points in the fourth quarter and had 11 rebounds in a 65-57 victory over then-No. 4 Ocean View. Thursday, she had 16 points and 14 rebounds in helping the Oilers hand then-No. 3 Marina its first league loss since 1990. Wistrick, who is averaging 13.4 points and 13 rebounds, is on a roll of late. She had 32 points and 24 rebounds in a 76-40 nonleague victory over Western, Jan. 5. “She’s a major force inside,” Bartlett said. “I think we’ve got a talented backcourt and, with her inside, we’re going to be a tough team.”

Other top performers:

Jody Anton, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds as Brea-Olinda lost, 48-42, to Palos Verdes Peninsula, ranked No. 1 in nationally by USA Today.

Christine Garner, who made a 43-foot, three-point shot at the buzzer to give Tustin a 46-45 victory over Woodbridge. Garner had 23 points and 16 rebounds in the victory, which preserved the Tillers’ three-year-old Sea View League winning streak.
