PREP ROUNDUP : Overtime Free Throws Lift Aztecs

Todd Snyder made two free throws with five seconds remaining in overtime to give La Quinta a 69-68 victory over Pacifica in Garden Grove League boys’ basketball game Monday night at La Quinta High School.

La Quinta’s Lloyd Bennett, who scored eight of his 14 points in the fourth quarter when the Aztecs rallied from a seven-point deficit, made a basket late in the quarter to force the overtime.

Cal Daniels scored 21 points to lead La Quinta (2-10, 1-2). Chris Vlasic led Pacifica with 20 points.

In other Garden Grove League boys’ games:

Los Amigos 64, Bolsa Grande 54--Mark Dillon scored 18 points and Jeff Martell had 14 points and 15 rebounds for host Los Amigos (4-7, 2-1).

Los Amigos held a decided advantage at the free-throw line, making 22 of 29. Bolsa Grande (0-11, 0-3) made three of four.

Kennedy 85, Rancho Alamitos 47--Jermaine Galloway scored 23 points and had 14 rebounds for host Kennedy (8-6, 3-0). Patrick Kunz added 19 points and five rebounds for the Fighting Irish. David Guzman led Rancho Alamitos (5-8, 2-1) with 13 points.

In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:

La Quinta 46, Pacifica 37--La Quinta used a fullcourt press to outscore Pacifica, 15-5, in the fourth quarter to earn the victory at La Quinta. Molly Skinner led the Aztecs (4-7, 2-1) with 13 points and she also had seven rebounds. Linda Rodriguez had eight points and 10 rebounds for La Quinta.

Garden Grove 47, Santiago 41--Garden Grove (5-5, 3-0) rallied from a 33-28 deficit at the end of the third quarter to earn the victory at Santiago (5-7, 2-1). The Argonauts outscored Santiago, 19-8, in the fourth quarter. Stephanie Bowers led Garden Grove with 10 points and America Robledo led Santiago with 11.

Bolsa Grande 35, Los Amigos 24--Bridgette Lockhart scored 12 points for visiting Bolsa Grande. Bolsa Grande led, 15-14, at the break but outscored Los Amigos, 16-2, in the third quarter.

Rancho Alamitos 71, Kennedy 48--Shannon James and Anita Stecker scored 17 points each as Rancho Alamitos won at Kennedy. Rancho Alamitos led, 34-24, at the half and outscored Kennedy, 20-8, in the third quarter.

In Sunset League girls’ basketball:

Ocean View 74, Westminster 33--Kristy Bell scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the host Seahawks (11-4, 2-1). Nikki Vivion added 13 points for Ocean View, which led, 39-18, at halftime. Twelve players scored for the Seahawks.

In Sunset League boys’ soccer:

Huntington Beach 1, Westminster 1--Dan Costanzo scored for Huntington Beach (8-6-3, 1-1-1) and Carlos Castro scored for host Westminster (1-2-2, 0-1-2).
