CS Sacramento Signs Pair From Ventura College for Football

David Lammano and Shawn Young of Ventura College have signed letters of intent to play football for Cal State Sacramento, Ventura Coach Dick James announced.

Lammano, a 6-foot-9, 297-pound offensive tackle, was an All-Western State Conference North Division selection. Young (5-10, 16) was a second-team choice at wide receiver.

Young, formerly of Channel Islands High, had 30 receptions for 571 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Stephane Brown of Ventura College has been selected as the Western State Conference North Division player of the week in men’s basketball, and Russell Baldwin of Valley has been honored as the South Division co-player of the week.

Brown, a 6-2 freshman from Channel Islands High, had combined totals of 36 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds and three steals in two wins last week for Ventura (19-4). Brown was 16 of 19 from the field in those games.

Baldwin, a 6-5 sophomore from San Fernando High, shared South Division player-of-the-week honors with Dorian Manigo of Santa Monica.

Brown had 47 points and 20 rebounds in a pair of wins for Valley (11-8).

Venessa Hackett of Ventura College and Rosa Mendez of Valley have been selected as the Western State Conference North and South division women’s basketball players of the week, respectively.

Hackett had 39 points and 26 rebounds to lead Ventura (16-5) to a pair of wins last week. The 5-11 sophomore from Hueneme High also had four steals and three blocked shots.

Mendez, a 5-7 freshman from Roosevelt High, had 24 points, 11 rebounds, nine steals and seven assists in two victories for the Monarchs (17-3).

Former Ventura College standout Brook Jacoby, a nine-year major league veteran, is among several professional players who are expected to compete for a Pirate alumni team Jan. 19 at Ventura. The game, which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., will be preceded by alumni batting practice at 10:45 a.m.
