Taylor Leads Way as Santa Clara Beats USF, 74-71
Reah Taylor scored a game-high 24 points and had seven rebounds to lead Santa Clara to a 74-71 West Coast Conference victory over San Francisco Friday night at San Francisco.
Santa Clara (5-10, 1-1 in the WCC) overcame a 39-37 halftime deficit and stretched its lead to 59-52 with 8:48 left.
San Francisco (8-7, 0-2) tied the score, 65-65, with less than four minutes left on two free throws by Orlando Smart.
But Santa Clara went ahead on free throws by DeWayne Lewis and Melvin Chinn.
Tim Owens led San Francisco with 23 points.
St. Mary’s 46, San Diego 36--In a game that produced poor shooting by both teams, Darrell Daniel scored nine points to lead St. Mary’s (11-6, 2-0) to a WCC victory over the Toreros (9-6, 1-1) at Moraga. St. Mary’s led, 15-12, at halftime.
