Bishop Montgomery Football Coach, Athletic Director Carroll to Step Down

Steve Carroll has resigned as football coach at Bishop Montgomery High and will step down as athletic director at the end of the school year to pursue other teaching and coaching opportunities, he said Friday.

“I’ve had some opportunities arise that, financially, would put me in a little better shape,” he said. “Rather than wait three or four months to see if those opportunities become a reality, I’ve decided to resign so the school can get busy about hiring another football coach.”

Carroll coached Bishop Montgomery to a 6-4 record last season, its first winning season since 1984. His three-year record was 12-18.

“Some of the best years of my life have been spent here at Bishop Montgomery,” said Carroll, who was an assistant for two years before taking over the football program. “I will miss the kids and all aspects of the life here at Bishop Montgomery. I wish them the best.”
