If a balanced scoring attack is a key to success, the Valley College women’s basketball team is off to a propitious start in the Western State Conference.

In five WSC interdivision games before Wednesday, Valley’s starting lineup featured the following scoring averages: Falicia Stanley (10.0), Katina Mines (10.0), Stacie Toon (10.0), Rosa Mendez (9.8) and Wendy Bruse (9.0).

Forward Shagarro Lattin, coming off a 21-point, 10-rebound effort against Cal State Sacramento on Jan. 14, leads the Northridge women’s basketball team with averages of 9.8 points and 5.5 rebounds.

The Northridge women’s basketball team is averaging only 52.6 points a game while yielding an average of 85.7.

The statistic most indicative of the Matadors’ 0-19 record is turnovers. Northridge has committed 592 turnovers, an average of 31.2 a game and 236 more than its opponents.

Paula Page last week became Antelope Valley’s leader in career free throws made (184; Kim Fairchild had 181 from 1986-88) and is expected to annex three more records this week in games against Citrus and Desert.

Entering Wednesday’s game at Citrus, Page was 16 points short of the career scoring mark of 849 set by Fairchild, six shy of the career rebound record of 516 set by Ramona Mitchell from 1983-85, and 14 behind the career field-goal record of 339 set by Chaundra Woodyard from 1983-85.
