PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Fountain Valley Defeats Edison in Third Overtime

Guy Vaccaro made a three-point shot late in the third overtime to help Fountain Valley defeat Edison, 77-74, in a Sunset League boys’ basketball game Wednesday.

Chris Rieff had 22 points and Ara Petrosian had 15 for the Barons (8-9, 3-2). Todd Harrell scored 23 for Edison (10-7, 3-2).

Edison was playing without leading scorer Brandon Jessie, who sprained his ankle in a game Saturday.

In other Sunset League boys’ basketball:

Ocean View 63, Santa Ana 53--Bryan Knox scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half as the host Seahawks overcame a 29-28 halftime deficit.

Justin Carr had 17 points and nine rebounds for Ocean View (10-8, 2-3). Aaron Morales had 18 for Santa Ana (6-11, 0-5).

Jim Harris, Ocean View’s leading scorer, missed the game after reinjuring his sprained ankle after colliding with a teammate during pregame warmups.

Marina 69, Westminster 47--Darren Crooks and Brendan Lyons each scored 17 points for Marina.

In Century League boys’ basketball:

Villa Park 57, Foothill 48--Ryan McArthur scored six of his 26 points in the third quarter as the Spartans (8-9, 2-2) outscored the Knights, 18-9.

Jarred Winger led Foothill (10-9, 2-2) with 16 and Matt Svicarovich added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

El Modena 56, Orange 40--Mario Perez scored 15 and Aaron Aguilera 14 for the host Vanguards (4-0, 13-5). Nic Demps had 10 for the Panthers (9-9, 0-4).

Santa Ana Valley 50, Canyon 30--Steve Singleton scored 12 points for visiting Santa Ana Valley. Brian Jalowiec had 13 points for Canyon (8-10, 1-3).

In Academy League boys’ basketball:

St. Margaret’s 86, Heritage Christian 55--Ravi Mruthyunjaya scored 19 points, including four three-point shots, and Damian Raibon and Lupe Rodriguez each scored 15 points for host St. Margaret’s (5-6, 2-0). Heritage Christian is 0-2 in league.

In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:

La Quinta 25, Bolsa Grande 24--Shawnee Aguilera scored at the buzzer for La Quinta. (5-10, 3-3). With 18 seconds left in play, Brandie Tantardini scored give Bolsa Grande (5-10, 1-5) the lead.

Rancho Alamitos 101, Los Amigos 21--Shannon James scored 12 of her 26 points in the first quarter as the Vaqueros (9-2, 6-0) led 37-4 after the first eight minutes.

Kennedy 34, Santiago 29--Karin Kitagawa scored 12 points and had four steals for Kennedy (9-6, 4-2).

Garden Grove 55, Pacifica 43--Stephanie Werdel had 13 points and Stephanie Bowers added 10 points for visiting Garden Grove (8-5, 6-0).
