CAL STATE FULLERTON NOTES : Long Beach Safety Johnson to Join Titan Football Team
Lester Johnson, a starting free safety at Cal State Long Beach until he broke his hand before the third game of last season, will transfer to Cal State Fullerton, Titan Coach Gene Murphy said Monday. Johnson, a Detroit native who played at San Francisco City College, will be a junior this fall and will have two years of eligibility.
Because Cal State Long Beach dropped its program, he is not required to sit out a year, as NCAA rules usually require.
Murphy also said quarterbacks Chad May and Terry Payne, who announced in December that they would be leaving Fullerton, have decided where they will go. May will transfer to Kansas State and Payne will transfer to Central Oklahoma, a Division II school in Edmond, Okla.
Sean Williams, starting center on the Titan basketball team, sprained his right ankle in practice Monday and is questionable for Thursday night’s game at San Jose State. Williams, who has scored in double figures in each of the past five games, injured his ankle when he landed on another player’s foot.
