Jennifer Dalton, one of the best high school athletes in the area, shows no signs of slowing down in her final season of basketball.

Dalton, a senior guard, scored 22 points in the Dynamiters’ 50-35 Pacific League victory over rival Hoover on Friday, solidifying her position as the premier girls player in the area.

Dalton, The Times’ Glendale Player of the Year last season, scored 14 points in the first half as the Dynamiters built a 27-19 halftime lead.

The victory improved Glendale’s record to 14-6 overall and 4-1 in league play.

The Crescenta Valley and La Canada girls’ soccer teams continue to roll.

Crescenta Valley, which plays as a 3-A Division independent, routed Highland, 6-0, last week, improving its record to 13-3.

La Canada improved to 12-3-1 overall and 4-0 in the Rio Hondo League by defeating Temple City, 3-2.

Marisa Eland scored two goals for La Canada, including the game-winner early in the second half.

COMMUNITY COLLEGES

The Glendale College men’s basketball team entered the week with an 11-10 record following the Vaqueros’ 81-75 Western State Conference loss to Santa Monica on Saturday.

Will Burr made six of nine three-point shots for Glendale, but the Vaqueros struggled without sophomore guard Alphonso Pule, who played only four minutes because of a chronic back problem.

“We just didn’t have enough,” Glendale Coach Brian Beauchemin said. “We’re already short in depth. This (injury) just set us back further.”

The Vaqueros continue Western State Conference play Saturday at Valley.

Stephanie Ball scored 15 points, but the Glendale women’s basketball team still fell to 9-12 with a 55-39 loss to Santa Monica.

The Vaqueros were unable to stop center Danielle Hill, who scored 20 points.

Glendale plays at Valley Saturday.

COLLEGES

Blair Slattery is still carrying the scoring load for an Occidental men’s basketball team, which continues its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer.

Slattery, a sophomore forward from San Marino, scored 41 points and had 19 rebounds last week in a 115-101 double overtime loss to La Verne. The 41-point total was three shy of the school record held by Kevin Hall.

Slattery scored 16 points and had eight rebounds during the Tigers’ 77-65 loss to Redlands.

Occidental is 6-8 overall and 0-4 in the SCIAC.

The Occidental men’s team struggled last week, but the Tiger women’s team enters Friday’s SCIAC game against Cal Lutheran riding a two-game win streak.

Occidental improved to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in conference with a 66-49 SCIAC victory over Whittier and a 62-29 nonconference victory over Pacific Christian.

PREP ATHLETE OF WEEK

Mike Wright, Glendale--Wright, a 6-foot-4 forward, scored 35 points in Glendale’s 72-64 overtime victory over rival Hoover to earn athlete-of-the-week honors for the second time this season.

Wright, a senior, had five dunks in the first half for the Dynamiters, who are chasing Muir, Crescenta Valley and Pasadena in the Pacific League.

“He was like a human highlight film,” Glendale Coach Bob Davidson said.

Wright is averaging 23 points a game for the Dynamiters in league play.

COLLEGE ATHLETE OF WEEK

Michele Pratt, Occidental--Pratt, a 5-7 guard, led the Tigers to two victories last week with outstanding offensive performances.

Pratt, a junior from Emmett, Ida., scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds in Occidental’s 66-49 victory over Whittier. She scored 13 points and had four rebounds and four assists for the Tigers in their 62-29 victory over Pacific Christian.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW

Tom Holmoe--Holmoe, a Crescenta Valley High graduate who played defensive back for two of the San Francisco 49ers’ Super Bowl championship teams, has joined the coaching staff at Stanford under former 49er Coach Bill Walsh.

Holmoe, 31, worked as a graduate assistant at Brigham Young University the past two seasons. Holmoe, who graduated from BYU in 1983, recently completed a master’s degree in athletic administration.

MISCELLANY

The Eagle Rock Athletic Club rugby team will play a match against San Luis Obispo Sunday at a new rugby and soccer facility at Riverdale Park. The match will be followed by a luncheon for alumni of the EGAC. . . . Registration and sign-ups continue for several Glendale-area youth baseball programs.
