SEA VIEW LEAGUE ROUNDUP : Corona del Mar Ends 8-Game Losing Streak

Corona del Mar ended an eight-game, month-long losing streak by posting a 59-50 victory over Newport Harbor in a Sea View League boys’ basketball game Friday night at Corona del Mar.

Corona del Mar’s most-recent victory came in late December during the Coast Christmas tournament at Estancia.

Trailing 22-21 at halftime, Corona del Mar (9-12, 1-5 in league) rallied in the final two quarters. The Sea Kings outscored Newport Harbor, 19-15, in the third quarter to take a 40-35 lead.

Theo Rokos went eight for 12 from the field and four for four from the free-throw line, finishing with 20 points and six rebounds for Corona del Mar (9-12, 1-5). Doug Hesse added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Sea Kings.

Justin McIntee had 19 points and Mark McAnlis 13 points including three three-pointers for Newport Harbor (10-10, 2-4).

In another league game:

University 85, Saddleback 84--Josh Whelihan hit seven of eight free throws and two baskets in the fourth quarter to keep the visiting Trojans (8-13, 2-4) ahead.

Luis Venegas had 27 for University and Whelihan scored 24.

Luis Estrella had 24 for Saddleback (11-9, 3-3), including a three-pointer at the buzzer.
